Reform’s Jake Berry says the party is not wedded to ideology as it draws up its policy platform, adding that deregulation, devolution and delivery could form the basis of the party’s general election manifesto in three years.

Part of the £625m Construction Skills  Package, which aims to train 60,000 skilled workers by 2029, the funding is part of a £96m boost to create thousands of placements around the country. 

Reform UK Cllr Stephen Place will lead the council, having been elected at the Annual General Meeting yesterday. 

Against a tumultuous political backdrop, the chancellor was in buoyant mood at UKREiiF as she announced hundreds of millions of pounds of investment across the North and the scrapping of judicial reviews that slow down large infrastructure projects, while also defending the government’s first two years in office.

The 10-year plan has identified the main areas of focus for investment as being the Humber Freeport sites in Hull and Goole, the regeneration of Hull’s Western Docklands, and the long-term development potential of Bridlington Bay.

Held at the University of Hull last week and sponsored by Associated British Ports, the East Yorkshire Development Update highlighted growing confidence in the region’s ability to attract major industrial, manufacturing, and regeneration investment.

After a busy day of meetings, panel discussions, queuing for coffee, searching for signal, and hot-footing it between Leeds Dock and the city, attendees were able to relax and unwind at Place’s reception drinks at Revolución de Cuba on Call Lane.

The development opportunities span 1,500 acres benefitting from financial incentives, with the potential to create 5,000 jobs over the next decade. 

Voters made one thing abundantly clear in the local elections, according to secretary of state Steve Reed: “They want to see change faster.” At UKREiiF, he and Homes England chair Pat Ritchie shared how they were going to answer that call to action.
