Further funding sought for Whitby’s Old Town Hall 

It’s all go for Capital&Centric’s plans for 192 BTR apartments on a scrubland site in the city’s Devonshire Quarter, in what the developer has dubbed Mesters’ Village.

As the government releases its shortlist of seven areas in the running for a share of £16bn to drive its housing programme, Place Yorkshire looks at the locations that were crossed off the list. 

Nestled away in the government’s new towns announcement was a separate £234m grant that will be split between seven Mayoral Combined Authorities including Tees Valley, Hull and East Yorkshire, and York and North Yorkshire.

The shortlist is out and Leeds place is confirmed, as the government announces a package of funding measures alongside plans that focus on large-scale housing delivery, transport investment, and partnerships with the private sector. 

The contractor was selected via the council’s newly implemented procurement strategy and will construct 42 homes across three brownfield sites in the city using MMC processes. 

Place Yorkshire is returning to Hull on 14 May with confirmed speakers so far including Cllr Anne Handley, leader of East Yorkshire, Hull City Council’s Paul Drake-Davis, and experts from Associated British Ports, Muse, and Humber Freeport, among others.

Waterfront improvements along Humber Dock Street were carried out by local contractor CR Reynolds and funded by National Highways, strengthening the area’s connection with the neighbouring Fruit Market. 

North Yorkshire Council has approved the off-market purchase of Resolution House from current owner Anglo American, opening up the potential for a leisure operator to invest in its current Town Hall base.
