Universities open £200m refurb tender
North Eastern Universities Purchasing Consortium is establishing a new framework for its members to procure refurbishment projects.
NEUPC has 23 full members, including Teesside, Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle and Northumbria in the North East.
Leeds’ four universities, Sheffield and York with two each, Bradford, Hull and Huddersfield are also full members in Yorkshire & the Humber. There are also a number of affiliate and associate members from FE colleges.
The notice was published on 13 December.
As set out by NEUPC, works procured under this framework will involve all aspects of refurbishment works, typical of university buildings such as but not limited to laboratories, small and complex lecture theatres, libraries, café and commercial kitchens, offices, public areas, meeting rooms, conference rooms, accommodation, and plant areas, in buildings of varying age and condition, including heritage buildings.
Refurbishment projects are ongoing and in the pipeline at a number of Yorkshire institutions: GMI is working on a £27m project for associate member Leeds City College, which includes the redevelopment of the Studio 24 complex; while the University of Huddersfield has this month secured planning permission to refurbish its historic Ramsden Building.
The NEUPC framework features lots across four value bands, with the first covering projects up to £250,000, and three geographic areas set out at £10m each: North East, Yorkshire & Humber and Midlands.
Yorkshire and Midlands projects are also covered in the brackets of £250,000 to £1.5m; £1.5m to £4m, and £4m to £10m. The overall value of each of these is £15m, £25m and £45m, giving the whole framework a total value of £200m.
The process is now open through Delta eSourcing. Interested parties are invited to register their interest by 30 January.
