Ubrique plans Kirklees student to resi development

The investment company is seeking to demolish the student accommodation on Storthes Hall Lane in Kirkburton and replace it with up to 261 homes.

A planning application that will go before the council next week is, at this stage, just looking to gain approval for the principle of residential development and the means of access into the site.

Designed by Parker Peel Architecture, the 30-acre site is around 5km from Huddersfield town centre and 1.5km west of Kirkburton and has been vacant since early 2024.

Plans show that the two on-site grade two-listed buildings, the Lodge Cottage and Administration Building, would be converted rather than demolished

Previously, the site housed 1,300 students and was managed by DIGS Accommodation, in blocks of up to four storeys.

Outline permission to convert the site into residential use was submitted in December 2023, although since then the scheme has evolved to retain more of the original planting, different access and street arrangements, and open space areas included throughout the layout.
