Sheffield’s Weston Tower BTR redevelopment advances
An EIA request has been submitted to the council, in the next stage of Packaged Living and Buccleuch’s 375 apartment scheme on the site of the derelict office block.
Sheffield-based planning consultancy Urbana submitted the request for the development, which has been under consideration since December.
Also on the project team is HLM Architects, Reform Landscape, Gardiner & Theobald, Fourth Wall Building Consultancy, and Crookes Walker Consulting.
Located at a key entry point into the city, fronting onto the city’s Dutch-style roundabout and next to the £300m West Bar development, the current nine-storey building has stood vacant for two decades.
The application follows the news that Sheffield has been urged to locate sites for an additional 3,500 homes to meet its targets in its draft Local Plan.
The report submitted by Urbana notes that the change of use from office to residential is supported by surrounding developments in the area, such as Soho Yard, which comprises 368 build-to-rent apartments backed by Legal & General at West Bar.
As well as up to 375 apartments, made up of one-, two-, and three-bedrooms, a 10,000 sq ft commercial and 6,500 sq ft of amenity space is also mentioned.
