Persimmon submits updated Barbican plans
The housebuilder wants to build 240 apartments on the site of the former swimming pool in York, designed by Seven Architecture.
The land is next to the York city wall and has already acquired planning permission. The updated plans seek to improve the aesthetics and maintain the tree line on Paragon Street, which was unachievable with previous designs.
Nineteen47 worked as planning consultant on the project, which is split over two parcels of land.
The main area is a two-acre plot to the east of the Barbican and the nearby Staycity Aparthotel, while the smaller 0.12-acre plot sits to the south west of the Barbican.
The smaller site will house 12 apartments with space on the ground floor for community use.
Persimmon has submitted its plans to the council, and a public consultation will commence in a few weeks, and will determine factors such as what the community space will be used for and who it will be operated by.
As well as a 53 flats assigned as affordable housing (22%), 65% of the properties will be adaptable and accessible.
The application reference number is: 25/00215/FUL.
