Natpower pledges £40m amid North Yorkshire BESS plans

The green energy company has submitted plans for a battery energy storage system on agricultural land near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, as well as a 108-acre public nature recreation area on the site.

Following a public consultation, Natpower has scaled back its original proposals and has relocated a proposed transmission substation away from the western edge of the site.

It has also pledged to donate £1m every year for 40 years to community businesses and groups involved in developing green communities.

The BESS would store wind and solar renewable energy.
