It’s a strike at Wakefield’s Trinity Walk
The 96,000 sq ft former Debenhams store will now become a 24-lane bowling venue operated by Tenpin, in a deal managed by Savills on behalf of the shopping centre.
A planning application to install the lanes was approved earlier this year at the unit, which has stood empty since anchor tenant Debenhams vacated in 2021.
Preparation works will begin soon, following which the space will be handed over to Tenpin for a full fit out.
The entertainment venue is expected to open in December and will also include a laser tag area, a Houdini’s escape room, arcade games, pool tables, a bar, and a diner.
Cllr Michael Graham, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “I’ve been clear about the importance of getting new leisure and entertainment options into the city and I know it’s something residents want to see too.
“It’s fantastic that our partners at Trinity Walk are driving this forward. It’s been an ambition of mine to see a bowling centre open right in the heart Wakefield, so it’s incredibly exciting to be welcoming Tenpin.
“This is high-quality private sector investment that shows confidence in our city and Trinity Walk and will be a real boost to our high streets and local economy.
“Just outside Trinity Walk, our amazing Wakefield Exchange (WX) is now open. It is an exciting new space hosting events, street food, studios and more.
“Our plans to transform Cathedral Square into a new, greener and larger social and cultural hub are taking shape, as two major buildings are set to be demolished, which will help make our city centre events even bigger and better.
“All of this will give more reasons for residents, visitors, and businesses to come into Wakefield and create a busy and thriving city centre.”
Brilliant.
