Hull KR assembles team for regen bid
Community facilities will be to the fore as the rugby league club takes on the role of developer for the land around its Craven Park home.
Hull Kingston Rovers are riding high on the field of play, making the Grand Final in this year’s Super League. Off the field, the East Hull club is making strides too, heading towards consultation in the new year on its proposals.
In 2022, Hull KR secured the option to purchase the 15-acre site around the Sewell Group Craven Park from Hull City Council.
The club has assembled a professional team featuring Warwick Smither Consulting, planner DPP, architect Corstorphine & Wright, cost consultant Ridge, highways advisor LTP, and communications firm Social.
Hull KR chief executive Paul Lakin said: “We’re delighted to be able to share our vision for our emerging masterplan for land around the Sewell Group Craven Park Stadium.
“We’re at the start of a journey. However, our ambition is to create a place that puts inclusivity, health and wellbeing, and amenity at the heart of our proposals.
“Hull KR is an inclusive club that prides itself on working collaboratively with the community. With that in mind, we’re looking forward to launching a public consultation exercise in the new year, where we will be encouraging all areas of the community to come together, and share their views on what will be a truly place-enhancing project.”
While the TV money sloshing around the world of football has drawn international sports entrepreneurs of various backgrounds to that sport, Hull KR and others in rugby league can justifiably describe themselves as rooted in their communities.
As such, the club said that “our vision is to create a place that puts inclusivity, health and wellbeing, and amenity at its heart, to bring everyone in our great city together”.
