Hull approves plans for 6,000 homes

The council has approved a Housing Growth Plan that aims to reach the city’s government-set target of 993 homes per year from 2025-2031.

The city centre will be a key area for growth with more than 2,000 homes expected to be built there, with Albion Square, St Stephen’s Place, East Bank, and Mytongate named as key sites.

Urban design practice Planit is currently leading on the development of a vision for the city centre.

Of the almost 6,000 homes, around 1,450 will be affordable and 800 are expected to be council homes.

Council leader for Hull City Mike Ross said: “I think we do need to recognise that the government’s target is incredibly ambitious and actually is also quite a challenge.

“Whilst we support the ambition we do need to be realistic in terms of the implications for the city.”
