Dakota Hotels eyes up York location

The luxury hotel chain, owned by Leeds-based Evans Property Group, has proposed a hotel at Northern House on Rougier Street.

The city centre hotel would be family-focused with 140 bedrooms, a restaurant, and a bar area.

Evans is a family-owned company, with established Dakota hotels in Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Work is also underway at the St Anne’s Wharf office building on Newcastle’s Quayside, which is due to open as a Dakota hotel in spring 2025.

Evans has previously invested in York, including the 1,000-unit mixed resi and retail Hungate development and the University Health Centre.

Before submitting a planning application, Dakota and Evans have asked for public feedback via Dakota’s website.

This looks fantastic, one of the best proposals (visually) in Yorkshire. Get it built – Northern House is rancid.
