And finally… it’s a lock-in

Punters will now have the option to stay or leave, as permission is granted for the renovation of a former jail into a micropub in Sheffield.

Plans drawn up by AAD Architects on behalf of Tribeka Developments show the building converted into a bottle shop with the option to take-away or consume on site.

The building used to house the jail cells of the adjacent police station before becoming an electricity substation, and has of recent years stood vacant.

A single storey extension will accompany the installation of new windows, a front door, and rear-of-house seating space.

The roof will become home to a ‘green roof’ and the exterior, which is covered in graffiti, will be given a thorough clean.

The site is located on the North side of Burton Road on the junction with Hicks Street in Neepsend, approximately one kilometre from the city centre.
