All go for Gresham

Following a recent nil-value land transfer from Middlesbrough Council to its development arm, Middlesbrough Development Corporation, the £200m Gresham Street scheme has been given the greenlight.

MDC’s own planning board approved the application, for which plans were submitted back in February.

Corstrphine & Wright created the designs for the development, which is currently brownfield land.

Developers iMpeC and Buccleuch Property have appointed Wates as the lead contractor, with work expected to start in summer.

The regeneration project is part of the wider Middlesbrough masterplan, with phase one comprising 240 BTR apartments and 450 PBSA rooms.

Marriott Hotel’s brand Fairfield is also considering opening a 200-bedroom location.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “Our Development Corporation is playing a vital role by supporting major projects, cutting through planning red tape and getting on with the job of revitalising sites such as Gresham which have stood empty and unloved for far too long.”
