True Sheffield tops out
Aztec Construction hosted the event for the city’s second tallest building, which is destined to be 28-storeys of PBSA offering 494 bedrooms.
Located on the former BMW garage site on Broad Lane, the student accommodation will cater to the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.
Measuring 85.6 metres high at its core, once complete it will have a sky lounge and outdoor terrace on floor 26, and a mix of shared ensuite apartment style bedrooms and studio rooms.
Amenities will include study zones, socialising areas, and a gym.
The skyscraper will be the first major change to the city’s skyline since St Paul’s Tower was constructed in 2010.
Ben Morley, managing director of true student, said: “Not only will true Sheffield provide the highest quality accommodation and amenities to students, but it has also already begun to contribute to Sheffield’s economy and community.
“More than 400 jobs were created during the construction phase, we employ 190 people daily and have partnered with Sheffield College to offer students valuable industry placements.”
Cllr Jayne Dunn, Lord Mayor of Sheffield, said: “The creation of the new accommodation from true student marks a very exciting addition not just to the student community here in Sheffield, but also to the wider city.
“It serves as a landmark evolution of Sheffield’s skyline, where it will stand proud as the city’s second tallest building.”
